Ghost is a useful application for hiding important files on your hard disk. I suggest you either keep it (or an alias of it) on your desktop. To use, simply drag any file or folder onto the Ghost icon. The file will instantly disappear (no need to restart).
Ghost is the best file hiding utility because it does three things to protect your file:
1. It makes the file/folder invisible. This means it cannot be seen from the finder.
2. It locks the file and its name. This will ensure that no data is lost from the file. (Or its name changed.)
3. It changes the file type and creator. This will make the file a different type than what it was before using Ghost. So if anyone does find it, they will not be able to use it.
To get a file back, launch FileTyper and open the file you hid. (It will be in the same place it was originally.) Then uncheck "Invisible", "Locked" and "Name Locked" and reenter the file type and/or creator. If your file/folder had a custom icon, check "Has Custom Icon".
(Note: You will have to remember the original file type and/or creator to use the file again later. To find this out, open the file in FileTyper.)
Secret: To get a list of all Ghost files on your disk, launch Find File and search for file type "GHST".
